All of our Authentic Smith Island Cakes are handcrafted by island residents, not mass produced by machinery. They do not meet the height requirements for a "standard dessert cake". Some settling may occur during shipment, so slight variations in height should be expected.
Sending as a gift? We offer the option to include a personalized hand written message card with your cake delivery. To maintain authenticity and prevent damage of icing messages during packaging/shipment, we do not write on our cakes.

We offer a Gluten Free Option on a few select flavors. Please note that although the confectioners sugar used in our frostings is gluten free, it does contain cornstarch which may contain minuscule traces of corn gluten. See below regarding allergy information.
Our Sugar Free Coconut option may contain natural sugars from the Unsweetened Coconut we use. Total Sugars are approximately 1g or less per slice of cake. There are no added sugars into our cakes, and we use sugar substitute products for any sugar ingredients required.
May take an additional day or two to process orders for our Gluten Free and Sugar Free options.
Despite taking all precautions - cross contact with peanuts, tree nuts, soy, milk, eggs, wheat, fish and/or shellfish can occur in our food production areas.
We accept all major credit cards for online orders. Our company uses PayPal to accept payments, but you do not need to have/use a PayPal account to checkout. Just follow the steps for checking out, and when prompted to log into PayPal, choose the option at the bottom to "Pay with Debit or Credit Card".
Shipping & Handling is included in all prices. Each Authentic Smith Island Cake is frozen for safe transport and shipped via USPS Priority Mail, which is typically 2-3 days. The mailboat leaves the island early in the morning Monday- Saturday. Inclement weather including high winds, can prevent the mail boat from traveling, but your cake will remain frozen until it leaves the island. Any orders received after 12:00am Eastern Time will not be processed for shipment until the start of the business day, and will shipped the following day. Our cakes are best served at room temperature, and they will arrive to you ready to serve and eat.
We also offer a delayed shipping option, for easy ordering in advance, so you can be sure not to miss that important event! Your cake will be shipped in time to arrive on or just before the date indicated.
There is an option to ship via USPS Express Mail, for an additional charge. Depending on the distance of the destination from our island, this option can still take 1-3 days.
WE DO NOT GUARANTEE A DELIVERY DATE! We do our very best to ensure your cake is shipped and arrives to you in a timely manner, however we cannot control delays within the USPS network. We are not responsible for any cakes after they have shipped. Once your order is in transit, please refer to your tracking number on USPS.com for updated information regarding delivery.

ALL REFUND REQUESTS MUST BE MADE WITHIN 24 HOURS FROM THE TIME YOUR ORDER IS DELIVERED.
Please inspect your package and it's contents upon arrival for any damage or other issues that may occur during shipment.
If a refund request is made, we may require that you return the product to us. Save the original packaging and everything inside, do not throw out any items regardless of the reason for your refund request. If a return is deemed necessary, we will email you a postage paid shipping label. Once your return is received and inspected, we will send you an email to notify you that we have received your returned item.
Once approved, your refund will be processed, and a credit will automatically be applied to your credit card or the original method of payment, within 7-10 business days.
As stated in our shipping disclaimer, we are not responsible for your package after it has left our facility. If your cake arrives broken or damaged, it is possible that it was mishandled by the carrier. Refund requests for a "broken/ damaged" cake, will need to provide proof of damage. Proof of damage includes but is not limited to, photos that clearly show the extent of the damage to the cake, and the original packaging. Save the original packaging and everything inside. Do not throw out the damaged items, even after you photograph them.

No refunds will be issued based solely on the fact that your package did not arrive on or by a specific date. Please read our shipping disclaimer for more information regarding shipment and delivery.
If your cake does not arrive within 10 business days from the date it was shipped, we will gladly work with you to provide a replacement or a refund.
Please understand that Smith Island is a place, not a brand. Smith Island Bakery is in Ewell, Maryland and is actually located on Smith Island. There are several mainland companies that use the Smith Island name, and sell similar style cakes. It is our belief that if you did not purchase your cake from a person or place on Smith Island, then you are not getting a truly authentic Smith Island Cake. This is not indicative of the quality or taste regarding cakes made by other companies. Refer to the "About Our Smith Island Cakes" section for more details and information regarding our cakes.
Be sure before placing an order with us, that Smith Island Bakery is where you've intended to make your purchase. Refunds will not be issued on any orders for reasons of mistaken identity or "ordering with the wrong company". NO EXCEPTIONS
NO refund given, exchange offered or correspondence will be entered into for:
-Change of mind
-Incorrect orders made by the purchaser or recipient
-Incorrect shipping address given at the time of order. If this item is a gift, make sure the recipient is not having mail forwarded. We will not issue refunds on a "Late Delivery" for a cake that has been forwarded from the original shipping destination or wrong address given.
-Due to the wide range of personal taste preferences and food likes/dislikes, we unfortunately do not offer refunds or replacements for products that are “not quite to your liking.”
